Why did we choose the name Grandfather's Beard?

We all have important values and ideas, things we care about and want to share. The Grandfather's Beard is just one of those ideas. So little is known about this lichen which has single-handedly united seven students with one purpose. Nestled in the mountains of Hazelton, BC this lichen was plucked out of a tree and has come to symbolize what is now known as the Interprofessional Rural Program of British Columbia (IRPbc).

This site will present IRPbc's cause and ideas to the world. We will include specific information about our team and its members, so no one forgets the people behind the pictures.

In low-lying areas, the deciduous oaks are decorated with a lace-like lichen called grandfather's beard; its presence is an indication that summer fog occurs here, because this lichen is dependent on high humidity for much of its water.

Mission Statement

To boldly go where no other students have gone before. To explore an aspect of nature that has long been forgotten, often taken for granted and sometimes even burned...The Grandfather's Beard.
